Cooling System, Water Pump and Thermostat Repairs in Birmingham
Losing coolant or seeing the temperature rise? We investigate cooling system faults and replace water pumps, thermostats and other failed cooling components where required. Overheating needs prompt attention before a small leak becomes serious engine damage.

Coolant loss and overheating checks
A wet patch, low coolant warning or temperature change helps guide the inspection but does not identify one failed part. Hoses, connections, the radiator, pump and thermostat operation may need checking. Tell us whether coolant loss occurs parked or driving and whether the heater or temperature reading has changed. A coolant leak and an internal engine fault need different repair plans.
Stop safely if the engine overheats
Do not continue driving with an overheating warning or steam. Switch off when safely stopped and do not open a hot coolant cap. Contact us before arranging delivery if the vehicle cannot be driven safely. Once the cause is established, we agree the repair and check the cooling system afterwards. Water pump access varies; on some engines it is linked to timing-belt work, so we confirm the fitted engine before planning replacement.
Cooling repair or engine assessment?
For temperature warnings with poor running, our engine diagnostics service helps plan the investigation. Where a pump is driven by the timing belt, see our timing-belt repair information.
Workshop FAQs
Before you book
Can you replace a water pump or thermostat?
Yes. We diagnose the fault, identify the correct components and discuss replacement for your vehicle.
Does overheating mean I need an engine rebuild?
