Match the service to the engine and its history

The correct oil specification matters as much as its viscosity, particularly with turbocharged engines, particulate filters and belt-in-oil designs. We identify the fitted engine and the relevant service requirements before selecting oil and filters. A previous engine replacement or missing maintenance record can change what needs checking. Routine servicing is also a chance to notice leaks, low fluid levels, damaged hoses and developing mechanical noises. Tell us about any warning light or unusual oil consumption before booking so those concerns are not treated as a routine filter change.

Oil, filters, plugs and practical inspections

The agreed service scope may include engine oil, oil and air filters, fuel filters where applicable, spark plugs and specified fluid checks. Not every item is due at the same time, so we discuss requirements around mileage, age and the available records. Accessible brakes, tyres and suspension items can provide useful inspection findings, but servicing is not a substitute for a dedicated diagnosis or an MOT. We explain urgent findings separately from items that can be planned, allowing you to decide on additional work with a clear understanding of what was found.

Maintenance after an engine repair

A rebuilt engine needs care matched to its components, oil requirements and handover instructions. Keep service records and report any unexpected noise, leak, temperature change or oil warning promptly. If the vehicle has been used for repeated short journeys, discuss how that may affect maintenance, especially on a diesel. Do not wait for the next scheduled service when a red oil warning or overheating develops. For a service enquiry, send the registration, mileage and details of the last service; that helps us identify the work due and quote a sensible scope.

A service can reveal another repair need

Routine checks can identify brake wear or steering and suspension concerns. If a separate repair is required, see our brake repair service or suspension and control arm repairs. We discuss additional work before proceeding.

Workshop FAQs

Before you book

Can I choose any oil with the right viscosity?

No. The manufacturer's approval or specification also matters. We identify the engine before choosing the oil.

Will a service cure a warning light?

A warning may need separate diagnosis. Tell us before booking so we can discuss the appropriate work.

Can you service an engine you have rebuilt?

Yes. Call with the vehicle details and handover information so the maintenance requirements can be checked.
